Man with alleged plan to commit federal crime is arrested

A man who authorities say had plans to rob and murder a wealthy lawyer has been arrested in nearby Granite City. The suspect is said to have had plans to extort money out of the wealthy man and then kill him by electrocuting him in his hot tub.

The man with alleged plans to commit these federal crimes has been charged with attempted extortion by threatening physical violence. Depending upon the strength of his criminal defense, this charge could be punishable by a fine of up to $250,000 and as many as 20 years in jail.
